Switzerland
Switzerland is one of those places that steals your heart and never gives it back. On this bucket list, you'll find chocolate tasting, hiking and eating cheese fondue as some essential experiences in this dazzling country, along with many more!
Go hiking in Jungfrau
If you're into hiking, you've got to visit the Jungfrau region in Switzerland. With the mesmerising waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen valley, Grindelwald's glaciers and the breathtaking Eiger trail, this region could well be heaven on earth.
Go paragliding, Lauterbrunnen
Not only is Lauterbrunnen famed for its stunning views and waterfalls, it's also a great place for extreme sports. Try paragliding for an unbelievable experience flying across the Swiss Alps, with all the world at your feet. You'll want to go again as soon as you land!
Visit the Christmas Market, Interlaken
You're likely to pass through Interlaken when heading to the Jungfrau region, but don't be too hasty! If you're visiting in November or December, make sure to visit Interlaken's beautiful Christmas market, with the market stalls and ice rink set in the shadow of the mountains.
Do a chocolate tasting tour
Let's be honest here - could you go to Switzerland without trying the chocolate? Swiss chocolate is among the finest in the world and your trip wouldn't be complete without trying some. Join a chocolate tasting tour in any of the major cities and sample delicious treats that you'll want over and over again. Don't forget to get some to take home!
Snap a photo of the Matterhorn
You've probably seen a picture of the Matterhorn without realising, as it's one of the most iconic mountains in the world. Even if you don't want to climb it, trying to get a great picture is an adventure on its own! We'd recommend trying a few different locations for the perfect shot, including Gornergrat and Riffelsee Lake.
Wander around Lake Geneva
As the largest lake in the Alps, it's unlikely you'll get very far around Lake Geneva, but it's worth visiting all the same. Stretching between Switzerland and France, this is the perfect place to travel between the two countries, stopping at one of the numerous lake towns on your journey. From lovely Lausanne to gorgeous Geneva, there's plenty to explore in the area and on the lake itself.
Admire Ascona
Lying on the north shore of Lake Maggiore, you'd be mistaken for thinking the town of Ascona belongs to Italy. This Italian-speaking lakeside town has all the colour and charm of Italy, but also a distinctive Swiss feel. Visit in the summer months to wander through the streets before spending an afternoon on the lake.
Museum hop in Basel
As Switzerland's oldest university city, it's no surprise that Basel is also home to the most museums in the country. After strolling around the Old Town, check out museum favourites such as the Basel Art Museum and the Museum of Cultures.
Do sport in Saint Moritz
If you want to stay active on your holiday, head to the Alpine town of Saint Moritz. There's something for everyone to try with hiking, mountain biking and sailing in the summer, to skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing in the winter.
Eat cheese fondue, Gruyères
So you've tasted the chocolate, but how about the cheese? Head to La Maison du Gruyère to discover the factory process behind making Switzerland's delicious cheese. Then, it must be time for cheese fondue, with warm bread to share.
