24 hours in Zurich

Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city, and a popular and busy rail hub. Chances are you'll pass through here on any Interrail trip in or around Switzerland. There’s a lot to see and do in the city, so here's how to make the most of 24 hours in Zurich.

11AM // Explore Zurichs old town

Walk the oldest streets in the city

Spend some time exploring the historic heart of Zurich’s Old Town. You can embark on a guided walking tour of the city, or simply explore the main attractions in your own time. If you choose to go alone, make sure you incorporate the main churches of Grossmünster, Fraumünster and St. Peter, all of which are within easy walking distance.

Track down a lunch that won’t burn a hole in your pocket

Eating out in Zurich can be an expensive affair. But there's a few places that serve up good quality meals at reasonable prices. Check out the likes of Burgermeister, Restaurant Ach’i, or Za’atar for simple international fare. If you’re a vegetarian, you’d be remiss to overlook Haus Hiltl, one of the first veggie restaurants in the world.

Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse is the main shopping street in the city. Stores for high-end brands line up this glitzy street, which is a fascinating place to explore on foot even if you’re not looking to buy.
