24 hours in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, also known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, is truly a Croatian paradise. From rich history to beautiful beaches - there's plenty to see. Here's the best way to spend 24 hours of your Interrail trip in this amazing city.

8 am // The fortress

Start the day early so as to avoid the big crowds coming in to visit Dubrovnik’s main attraction – the City Walls which have surrounded the Old Town since the 14th century. The 2-hour tour will provide you with information about the city and its history, while also revealing amazing views of both the town and the coast.

If the city and its walls look familiar to you, it's almost certain you recognized them from the hit series Game of Thrones. Many scenes taking place in the fictional capital of King's Landing were shot here in Dubrovnik.

10 am // The old town

Continue your walk by getting lost in the Old Town of Dubrovnik. Here you will find numerous attractions dating back to the 14th century, including the Dubrovnik Cathedral, the main street Stradun and the Franciscan monastery, featuring one of the world’s oldest still-operating pharmacies.

Don’t be afraid to leave your map in your backpack and walk randomly through some of the small streets, ensuring you will also escape the crowd.

1pm // The perfect escape

By noon the city will probably be bustling with tourists. If you want some peace, head to the Old Town Port and hop on a 15-minute ferry ride to Lokrum Island. There you can walk around the beautiful nature and have a relaxing picnic at one of the many beaches. If you are craving some adrenaline, there are some cliffs offering exciting, yet safe jumps.

If exploring the locations of Game of Thrones sounds much more exciting to you, then certainly don't miss the much-desired throne located inside the island's monastery. Once done, head back to the city to check one of the numerous tours of GoT locations offered.

Please note that Lokrum island is open to visitors from April to November only.

5 pm // The perfect sunset

Srd Hill is one of the city’s top locations and with the views it offers, it's not a surprise. Take a nice little hike or a ride on the famous Cable Car to the top – the choice is yours. Once you’re up there, you will be rewarded with one of the best views in Croatia, especially if you go just before the sunset.

If you want to escape the tourist crowds, head to Orsula Park, where an amphitheatre setting offers a view just as amazing as the one from the hill.

8 pm // The night is young

Start the evening at one of the many restaurants around the city for a recharging session featuring mouth-watering Mediterranean food. Once filled up, it is time for the fun to begin. Revelin is Dubrovnik’s premier club, often attracting DJs from all over the world, while Banje Beach is an outdoor bar, making sure your summer nights will be ones to remember.
