ÖBB Nightjet
ÖBB Nightjet trains are operated by the Austrian railways (ÖBB) and offer an extensive overnight network throughout Europe. Sleep your way from city to city with ÖBB Nightjet and save the daytime for sightseeing. Travel to famous cities like Vienna, Munich, Rome, and Berlin and arrive there well-rested, with a whole day of exploring ahead of you!
From December 2023, ÖBB Nightjet has launched their brand new ‘Nightjet of the new generation’. In addition to the most modern seats, couchettes and sleeping cars, it has a new concept called ‘Mini Cabin’. Passengers will now be able to sleep in private pods with the same comfort as modern couchettes. These 'DANI' Nightjet trains operate on the following routes as of September 2024:
- Vienna/Innsbruck – Hamburg
- Vienna/Munich – Rome
- Vienna – Bregenz

Please note that some trains run only on specific days a week and/or only in a specific period of the year (for example, only in summer). Check the ÖBB Nightjet website for this information. Follow the steps described below:

2. On this page, click the destination you want to travel to by ÖBB Nightjet.
3. Locate the 'journey planner' on the page. Fill in the country where you will be departing from.
4. You'll get a list of trains that leave from your country of origin to your next destination.
5. Click the train to see more information.
6. Under the list with stops, you'll find timetable information specifying what days of the week (and what period of the year) the train runs.

Reservations
Reservations on the ÖBB Nightjet trains are compulsory and dynamic, which means that they can differ based on availability and the specific route. We recommend you make your reservations as far in advance as possible, especially for travel in the high season (May - September). In general, you can start making reservations for Nightjet trains (with 'NJ' train number) up to 6 months in advance. For EuroNight trains (with 'EN' train number) this is up to 2 months in advance.
Travellers with a 1st or 2nd class Pass can book reservations in all the accommodation types mentioned below.
How to make reservations for the ÖBB Nightjet
You can reserve your sleeping accommodation on the ÖBB Nightjet in the following ways:

- By calling the ÖBB Customer Service (+43 5 1717)
- At the train station
How to make a reservation for Nightjet night trains through the ÖBB website
- Enter your departure/arrival stations, and the time/date of your desired journey
- Click on the Passengers’ info box (where you see “1 x Adult – Without Discounts”) and another page will open
- Add as many travellers as you need, and for each Passholder click on 'add discount'
- Scroll down or search for 'Interrail / Eurail - Globalpass', then select it and click confirm
- Once you’re done with all travellers, click ‘OK’, and you’ll be redirected to the main page
- Click on ‘Find Services’ and select ‘One way tickets and day tickets’. Here you can select the train and then the type of accommodation (either seat, couchette or sleeper cabin) you want
- Once the desired accommodation is selected, click on ‘Continue with € __’ and finalise your reservation with the payment
What is required once you board a night train
- When you board the train, the conductors will ask to see:
- Your Interrail Pass: You can just add the journey to My Trip and activate it before boarding. In the 'My Pass' section, simply tap on "show ticket" to show your QR-code during the inspection.
NOTE: if you have a paper Pass, the conductor might keep it for the night and return it in the morning. - Your reservation: We recommend bringing a printed copy of your reservation, but in most cases a mobile version is accepted.
- Your Interrail Pass: You can just add the journey to My Trip and activate it before boarding. In the 'My Pass' section, simply tap on "show ticket" to show your QR-code during the inspection.
Some ÖBB Nightjet trains (on the routes Zürich - Hamburg, Zürich - Berlin, and Zürich - Amsterdam) have a seating carriage where seat reservations are not mandatory. You can still decide to book your reservations at an extra booking fee, and this can be done through the following channels:
