Tips & tricks
Interrail is an all-in-one rail Pass that lets you explore 33 countries by train
That's over 40,000 destinations covered by just one ticket.
How does it work?
Travel around Europe just by showing your Pass on your phone. You can change your plans whenever you like, and if you miss your train you can just hop on the next one.
Your Pass lives inside our app on your phone. In the app, you can search train timetables, save journeys and show your Interrail ticket on board the train.
What's included in the Pass?
What's included?

What's not included?
- You'll need to pay for seat or sleeper reservations on high-speed and night trains. Check whether seat reservations are required for your journey and how much they could cost by searching our timetable.

Got a need for speed? High-speed trains require seat reservations
For most trains in Europe, you can simply hop on and sit down with your Interrail Pass. But to travel on high-speed trains and night trains, you'll usually need to book an additional seat reservation to travel with your Pass.
Seat reservations aren't included in the cost of your Pass, but guarantee you a seat on busy high-speed trains for an extra fee, which is set by the railway companies. You'll also need to pay an extra fee to book a seat or bed on most night trains. You can book most seat reservations through our reservations tool, in our app or direct from the railway company.
Choose the scenic route to avoid paying extra
It's usually possible to avoid extra seat reservation costs by taking a slightly slower train or making a few more changes. Check our timetable or download the Rail Planner app to see which trains require seat reservations.

With Interrail, you have the freedom and flexibility to hop on and off most trains as you please, as long as your Pass is valid. If you miss a train, it’s no problem – just jump on the next one.
Cut your carbon footprint
Travelling by train emits up to 90% less CO2 than travelling by plane (source: Eurostar). Choosing a train journey over short-haul flights is a great way to limit your impact on the environment, and since trains have no luggage restrictions and take you direct to the city centre, its an easy decision to make.
