Exchange and refund conditions for reservations

The exchange and refund conditions for each reservation differ based on country and carrier. If the reservation has been booked using our self-service Book Reservations tool, a booking fee of €2 per passenger per train reservation is generally not refunded. Additionally, our booking tool relies on 3 different booking systems that we have partnered with, each with their own refund conditions – in most cases, a cancellation charge shall be deducted from the total reservation amount when the customer requests for a refund.

- All reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
- If the reservation is cancelled at least 15 days before departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
- If the reservation is cancelled between 14 days – 1 day before departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €15 per person
- When the reservation is cancelled the same day as departure or in case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
- All reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
International day trains
- Austria – Italy: EuroCity (EC) and EuroCity Brenner (ECB), ÖBB Nightjet
- Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
- If the reservation is cancelled before departure, the customer shall receive the full refund
- In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided.

International night trains

- Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
- If the reservation is cancelled at least 15 days before departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
- If the reservation is cancelled between 14 days – 1 day before departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €15 per person

- If the reservation is cancelled the same day as departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €5 per person
- In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided

- Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status and the reservation issuing system used:
- Ticket is in French or says it was purchased via SNCF boutique (CIV 1087):
- If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €4 per person
- In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
- Ticket is in English and says it was issued by SNCB (CIV 1088):
- If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
- In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
- Reservations are exchangeable once and free of charge before scheduled departure with the following conditions:
- Only the date and time of travel may be changed
- The departure and arrival stations cannot be changed
- After the reservation has been exchanged once, it can no longer be refunded or exchanged again, unless the train is cancelled

- Ticket is in French or says it was purchased via SNCF boutique (CIV 1087):
- Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status and the reservation issuing system used:
- Eurostar
- All reservations are non-refundable
- Customers can check if their reservations may be exchanged in advance on the Eurostar website by filling out their booking reference and last name. If exchangeable, the following conditions apply:
- Eurostar Continental (formerly Thalys)
- Reservations may be exchanged once free of charge, provided the request is made at least 7 days prior to the departure date. A fee will apply to exchanges made within 7 days of departure
- Only the date and time of travel may change. The departure and arrival stations cannot be changed
- All exchange requests must be submitted via the Eurostar portal, including payment of any fees
- Eurostar London
- Exchangeable with the following conditions:
- A minimum 15 EUR per person exchange fee shall be levied for exchanging reservations in Standard class
- A minimum 20 EUR per person exchange fee shall be levied for exchanging reservations in Standard Premier class
- Only the date and time of travel may change. The departure and arrival stations cannot be changed
- All exchange requests must be submitted via the Eurostar portal, including payment of any fees
- Exchangeable with the following conditions:

- Change of date and/or time:
- Before the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges are unlimited and free of charge
- After the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges can only be done once and are free of charge within 1 hour after departure, but only at the departure station indicated on the ticket
- Change of route:
- Before the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges are unlimited and free (paying a possible difference in reservation amount)
- After the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges can only be done once and are free (paying a possible difference in reservation amount) within 1 hour after departure, but only at the departure station indicated on the ticket
- Change of date and/or time:
- Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
- If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure and if the reservation amount is higher than €10 per person, then 20% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount

- Change of route:
- Before the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges are unlimited and free (paying a possible difference in the reservation amount)
- After the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges can only be done once and are free (paying a possible difference in the reservation amount) within 1 hour after departure, but only at the departure station indicated on the ticket
